I have been fascinated by how rare collectible markets work. Why do people pay such staggering sums for something like a baseball card? Are we just irrational monkeys? Is there any way to predict such things? Pokemon cards worked and in retrospect it is obvious. Beanie babies famously didn't.
For the sake of definition: I will define collectibles as thing that do not produce a cashflow or have a physical use. So an NFL team won't count. A car won't count either because it is something you drive. But pokemon cards, old stamps, roman coins will all count."
